Ingredients
Scale
- 1 medium to large russet potato
- 1 tsp olive oil or butter
- Coarse salt, to taste
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chives, bacon bits
Instructions
- Wash and dry the potato thoroughly.
- Pierce the potato with a fork several times to allow steam to escape.
- Rub olive oil or butter over the skin and sprinkle with salt.
- Microwave on high for 5 minutes, flip, then microwave for an additional 4-5 minutes.
- Check for doneness with a fork. If not fully cooked, microwave in 1-minute increments.
- Optional: finish under the broiler for 2-3 minutes for a crispier skin.
- Slice, fluff the interior, and add desired toppings.
Notes
- Use medium to large russets for best results.
- Rotate the potato if your microwave doesn’t have a turntable.
- Let it rest for 2 minutes after cooking to distribute steam evenly.
